Text Box: So why does it matter at Tor View?
It is widely recognised that a child’s emotional mental health and well-being influences their cognitive development and learning as well as their physical and social health and their mental well being into adulthood. The Department of Education recognises that in order to help pupils to succeed, schools have a role to play in supporting them to be resilient and mentally healthy.
So positive emotional is of great importance to learning and attainment, and is part of our school ethos to support the wellbeing of our pupils, parents and staff.
Text Box: What is emotional and mental health?
Emotional health is an important part of overall health. People who are emotionally healthy are in control of their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. They are able to cope with life’s challenges. They can keep problems in perspective, and bounce back from setbacks. They feel good about themselves, and have good relationships.
Being emotionally healthy, does not mean you are happy all the time. It means you are aware of your emotions, you can deal with then whether they are positive or negative. Emotionally healthy people still feel stress, anger and sadness. But they know how to manage their negative feelings. They can tell when a problem is more than they can handle on their own. They also know when to seek help from others.
