I am privileged to be Head of School at Tor View Specialist Learning Community where our learners are amazing in every part of life. All of our staff are fantastic at their roles along with working together as a team to ensure the learners of our school are at the centre of all they do.

Our ethos is to Inspire, Learn, Enjoy and Achieve. With this at the forefront of our mind, we have high expectations for all of our learners. Our team of highly skilled specialist teachers and teaching assistants enables them to plan fun, engaging and interactive lessons to suit the needs of all learners in the classroom, to ensure progress is being made in all areas of the curriculum and learners are achieving their potential. We are continuously working hard to develop the school’s facilities to ensure the learners have the best possible experiences during their education here at Tor View.

We have built up a great partnership with other professionals and have multi-agency links to ensure that we support our learners and their families in the best possible way. Our parent liaison works tirelessly to ensure she is in regular contact with those families who require support.  We are proud of our working relationship with parents and professionals to maintain a positive outlook and future for the families we serve.

Welcome from the Head of Further Education & Valley College

A very warm welcome to Further Education, situated on Ewood Campus – Valley College. I am delighted to be Head of Valley College and Tor View School Further Education Department. This vibrant and welcoming provision was graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in December 2019 and dedicated to upholding the mission statement of Tor View School……Together we inspire, learn, enjoy and achieve.

It is so important to get education right. Everything we do is rooted in our ethos and values, and we believe that students should flourish in a safe, caring and happy environment, where they are guided to achieve their very best.

Having been appointed as Head of Valley College and Tor View School Further Education Department in September 2021, I would like to share some information about the provision for Tor View School Further Education pupils

Tor View School Further Education students access their education on the Ewood Campus – Valley College and, as a result, benefit from the environment which is more ‘college-like’ for our young adults. This helps to prepare them for a successful future, through the College’s mission statement – Preparation for Adulthood, Citizenship and Employment (PACE).

The Further Education provision remains a GLD offer, meeting the widest possible range of need. We do recognise that Valley College – post 19 provision is not an appropriate destination for all Tor View School ‘leavers’. We remain committed to inclusion and we support as many Year 14 leavers as possible to access local mainstream Further Education colleges. There are also Year 14 leavers who require a different type of provision. In these circumstances, we work closely with adult social care to secure individual solutions supporting successful transition for all.

The provision at Ewood Campus – Valley College is a fully accessible provision for Post-16 students to promote independence, and a large common room and ‘chill out’ area, wide uncluttered corridors, a fully accessible flat for the development of independent living skills, light airy classrooms with low distraction decoration, accessible toilets and changing spaces, and vocational skills provision including a catering kitchen and horticulture centre and a café. The quality and relevance of the curriculum study programmes includes, extensive work experience programmes, paid work opportunities, vocational options and life skills curriculum and personal and social development which includes Face Me Theatre.

Our school is invested in the individual as a whole, equipping them for their future, and providing the necessary life skills that will enable them to make a unique contribution to our society.
